It is said that "beauty is skin deep – but ugly goes to the bone" – oh, is that so?
So what is "beauty" and what is "ugly" and who says which is which?
Does society set "standards"? – so what happened to the "eye of the beholder"?
Does ugly also cover deformity – physical or emotional deformity? Or is Ugly a state of mind or a mental construct – as in evil… that's not to the bone – that's to the soul and beyond!!
Body, heart and spirit… all of these can be beautiful and the deeper (from the surface) you go, the greater the beauty becomes..
Someone close was severely burned as a child. Certainly there is physical deformity – but is she ugly?
She lost her own child to "cot death" and the trauma brought on arthritis and other devastating effects with further deformity.
So is she even more ugly now?
Yet SHE was the one to hold me calm whilst the childhood nightmares invaded my sleep. SHE is the one to hold my hand and wipe away my tears when life brings pain and angst to me..
SO, where is the "ugly lady" here then?
